Can molded pulp trim scrap be repulped back into production?

Yes, when the scrap is clean and segregated by fiber type. Trim from an uncoated, single-material part can be returned to the pulper at controlled consistency and blended back into the furnish at a tested ratio. Coated, printed, laminated, or contaminated scrap cannot re-enter a food-contact or high-strength part without a separate treatment path and, usually, a dedicated stock line. What breaks a closed-loop repulping system?

Contamination and uncontrolled consistency. What blend ratio of recovered fiber is safe?

There is no universal number — the safe ratio is the one your part still passes at. How should scrap be stored before repulping?

Dry, covered, and indoors, in labeled bins separated by fiber type and cleanliness. Outdoor storage exposes scrap to sand, grit, and rain, which plugs screens and wears equipment; open bins invite tape, packaging film, and floor sweepings into the loop. A small investment in covered bin capacity at the trimming station prevents the contamination that otherwise makes the whole loop uneconomic.
